Hard to believe that we are already into August. While I am hesitant to say it.... Summer is flying by!

Earlier this year the FPA of MA enlisted the help of a new Public Relations Firm to help us take our PR effort to the next level.

The PR Committee (members include: John Napolitano, Brad Wright, Jaime VanBiljon, Chris Chen and Barrett Costello) along with the Board and our PR Agency set out on a goal to execute a strategy that would Educate the consumer, while Advocating for our members and the profession and Participate in the discussion (as a credible Association of Financial Planning Professionals) regarding any and all financial planning matters.

So what are we doing and how can this impact you?

1. Social Media Strategy:  To be seen as credible in the eyes of publishers, editors, etc. It helps to have a cohesive Social Media Strategy.  So ,every week the FPA of MA uploads unique content regarding a range of financial planning topics to Boston.com. You can see this content at http://www.boston.com/business/personalfinance/managingyourmoney/ or you can follow us on Facebook @ http://www.facebook.com/pages/Financial-Planning-Association-of-Massachusetts/180236272033414 (If you like it, please tell us by liking us!). You can also follow us on Twitter @fpa_ma!  Please help us get the word out by liking, sharing and or following us!  If you have a suggestion for a story or Blog Post or would like to publish one with your name and firm in the byline. WE WOULD LOVE FOR YOUR TO PARTICIPATE!  In fact, you should have received a request regarding this whole Market Basket situation, we would welcome your thoughts for a story!  Contact me directly at [email protected] or [email protected] with ideas.

2. Preferred News Format or "PFN": Last year the FPA of MA was awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award for Public Relations and Pro Bono from our colleagues at FPA National. We did a lot of great things last year and published a lot of great content that can be reused in daily, weekly and monthly media at outlets in every corner of the state. Berkshires, North Shore, South Shore, Cape Cod, 128 Corridor, etc...The FPA of MA is partnering with members and the media all across the state to publish content bylined by the FPA MA member.  If you are interesting in participating or have relationships in the media and need content. Please let us know. Our goal is to have content from the FPA of MA appearing in media across the state on a regular basis.

3. Media Tour:  The FPA of Massachusetts has a lot of experience and talent on the Board, in the committees, and in our membership. We are in the process of working with our PR Agency to uncover opportunities where the FPA of MA can be a subject matter expert. The goal being to Educate the Consumer, Advocate for our members and the profession and Participate in the discussion. More to come.

The strategy is all tied in together. We welcome your feedback and participation!  There is no FPA of MA or Public Relations effort without the knowledge, experience and great work of our members. We are here to serve you and help the Commonwealth understand and hopefully appreciate and recognize the need for the services you provide! If you have feedback or any ideas for stories, strategy, etc... The Public Relations Committee is here to listen and help!

Market Basket is a great opportunity for the FPA of MA to Educate. Many employees with be facing financial planning issues because of this strike. Unemployment, rollovers, insurance, healthcare issues, etc... How can the FPA of MA help? think of it as a TIPS Gallery.  Please keep your ideas to 100 words or less.  We will then publish these TIPS on The Boston Globe's website.

Sincere thanks,

Barrett
