We All Want to Serve Women Clients: What Does That Actually Mean?

When:  Feb 13, 2020 from 14:00 to 15:00 (ET)
The February 2020 Women & Finance Knowledge Circle will be held on Thursday, February 13th at 2 pm ET.

Guest speakers Diane Bourdo and Lexi Olian will be presenting, "We All Want to Serve Women Clients: What Does That Actually Mean?"

Wealth management firms large and small are all competing to get women clients and to hire women advisors. Every firm has a “Women and Wealth” tab on its website. For good reason. As the data bears out, women control about 85% of all consumer purchases and are poised to control a greater and greater percentage of assets in the coming decades. What does it mean to serve women? What would actually be different if firms did so? How would we know that an RIA was actually addressing the needs, strengths, preferences and perspectives of women?

Likewise, we all see that RIAs are competing to hire women advisors. This potentially creates a dilemma for firms that recognize the need for gender diversity in their staff – but may not be aware of or be willing to make changes that would celebrate and promote, rather than merely accommodate female employees. Given this environment, how can women come together to support each other, to form a version of the “old boy’s network” that is a reflection of our needs, preferences, perspectives and strengths?
