Guest speaker Alvin Carlos will be presenting, "Challenges & Triumphs of Building an RIA: Perspective from a Minority Planner."

Alvin will share the challenges and rewards he experienced in building his own RIA – District Capital Management, located in Washington, DC.  Alvin is a minority planner and his firms serves a majority-minority clientele.

  • Introduction: How District Capital Management was formed, Alvin's background and composition of his firm (diverse clients and staff).

Alvin Carlos, CFP®, CFA has helped about 200 middle-class folks take control of their finances since 2011. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UMUC and has a MA in International Relations from Johns Hopkins. He is the recipient of the 2018 Financial Planning Association Diversity Scholarship.
