The Mission is More than the Money: Special Needs Financial Planning

Guest speaker Alex Nadworny with Shepherd Financial Partners will be presenting, "The Mission is More than the Money: Special Needs Financial Planning."

With the number of children receiving special education services in schools across the country increasing, the demand for financial planning professionals to have an understanding of Special Needs Financial Planning is growing.  This webinar is an introduction to complex special needs planning strategies and will cover the the Special Needs Planning Timeline(TM),the Five Factors (TM) of planning, and the proper language to use when working with families of individuals with disabilities. 

Learning Objectives:
• Understand relevant legal components including special needs trust and guardianship.
• Learn how to plan for a parent and a lifetime with a financially dependent child, beyond the money.
• Understand considerations for other family members.
• Gain an overview of government benefits available.

Alex brings her experience as a Certified Financial Planner® Professional, and her empathy and knowledge as a sibling and future guardian of her brother James, to advising families of individuals with special needs. She has become a sought after speaker on the topic of building a Team to Carry On™, encouraging and guiding families to plan for when they are no longer able to do all they do for their loved one.

As well as building her own general wealth management practice, Alex is a key member of the Special Needs Financial Planning team, working with client families to educate and advise the next generation of family members.  Alex is a co-author of SibTips, an e-book outlining tips and vocabulary for brothers and sisters of individuals with special needs.

Alex is an active participant in several organizations and fundraisers designed to benefit individuals with disabilities. She is on the board of the local Department of Developmental Services (DDS) Citizens Advisory Board, State Advisory Council and was selected to be a part of the DDS initiative in Creating a Common Wealth to create community for people with disabilities in Massachusetts and to develop young leadership in advocating for people with disabilities.  Alex is currently the Vice President of the Massachusetts Guardianship Association.
