Cultural Intelligence: Different Values & Behaviors in Financial Counseling

When:  Jun 22, 2023 from 12:00 to 13:00 (ET)

The June 2023 Financial Counseling call with AFCPE and FPA will be held on Thursday, June 22nd at 12 pm ET.

Guest speaker Stephanie Lee will be presenting, "Cultural Intelligence: Different Values & Behaviors in Financial Counseling."

If a client does not return our smile or avoids eye contact, we might assume that the client does not like us or trust us. In fact, smiling and eye contact are behaviors that differ across cultures. While we often think of culture in terms of ethnicity and nationality, it may be based on other commonalities, such as age or region within the US. Differences make every group interesting and also bring challenges to understanding a client. The goal of this session is to build the financial counselor’s awareness of how values and behaviors may vary across communities. By learning about behavioral differences, we can build a deeper connection to our clients.
