Can Market Timing Work?

When:  May 28, 2024 from 15:00 to 16:00 (ET)

The May 2024 Investment Planning Knowledge Circle will be held on Tuesday, May 28th at 3 pm ET.

Guest speaker Daniel Krause will be presenting, "Can Market Timing Work?"

The academic conclusion of Modern Portfolio Theory is that market timing can never work. This has become the prevailing wisdom in the wealth management industry today.

However, some HNW advisors and Family Offices have successfully run a High Yield timing - or tactical - strategy. How do they do it? How does it work? Can tactical timing be applied to other areas of the market? What are the challenges and limitations?

We talk with industry veteran Dan Krause. After witnessing first hand the success of this strategy, Dan founded Counterpoint Mutual Funds with his brother, Michael Krause, to execute the strategy. Michael is an experienced Quant investment manager and their ten year track record is impressive. We discuss these questions as it applies to both tactical timing strategies in general as well as how they implement in their own fund.

Daniel Krause has over 30 years of mutual fund distribution experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Counterpoint Mutual Funds in 2015, Mr. Krause served as the National Sales Director for Sierra Mutual funds and Ocean Park Asset Management. Prior to Sierra, Dan was a Regional Vice President for Invesco, Van Kampen Investments, and Alliance/Bernstein and was responsible for distribution in Southern California and Hawaii from 1999 to 2011. Before moving to Los Angeles in 1999, Mr. Krause spent eight years as Regional Vice President at Oppenheimer Funds, Merrill Lynch Asset Management, Nicholas Applegate, Wells Fargo, and Federated Funds.

Mr. Krause also co-founded Exchange Network Services, Inc., an internet service provider, which earned him the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Northeast Ohio regional award in 1998. Mr. Krause is a graduate of John Carroll University with a BS degree in Psychology.
