The Chronicle of Philanthropy (@Philanthropy) has published a new online interactive tool that takes data from 2008 IRS tax returns and displays philanthropic giving by state, city, and even zip code.  Interesting stuff - how well does your community stack up?

Andrew - no, I just learned about this tool. I'll need to think about how to incorporate it, if at all, in the planning process. Charitable giving is a key element of our planning, but the first step is a discussion around developing/articulating a charitable philosophy / mission statement.
Very informative data on that website. Have you been utilizing it in anyway with clients? Do you show them median giving in their community to see if they are a prodigious giver?
